Atletico Madrid confirm Vitolo agreement

In a club statement, Atletico said: "Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement with Victor Machin Perez, Vitolo, for the next five years after the player rescinded his contract with Sevilla Futbol Club".

The 27-year-old had been linked with a move away from Sevilla over last few months as he continued to impress for the Andalusian side.

"Due to FIFA's sanction that forbids the club from registering football players during the current summer market, the player will play the first half of the season with Unión Deportiva Las Palmas and will join our team starting on January 1, 2018", Atletico said on its website.

The transfer takes place despite Sevilla chief José Castro saying on Monday that Vitolo had agreed to a new, five-year contract at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.

He has signed for Atletico until 2022 but will only register with them on January 1 2018 which is when the ban is lifted.

"Vitolo, who is 27, is a football player of proven experience and quality, and has worn the shirt of the senior national team 11 times and has become one the most creative players of the League in the last seasons".

The suggestion from Spain seems to be that Vitolo paid the €37.5 million required to buy-out his contract and Atletico will pay him back.

Atletico's new signing won the Europa League three times with Sevilla, in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
