Afterwards, Ashley Smith, a transgender woman and LGBTQ activist, took a seemingly friendly picture with the governor during a meet-and-greet.

Greg Abbott on July 10 issued a formal proclamation for the special session that begins July 18, directing the Texas Legislature to extend expiration dates for the Texas Medical Board and other state boards that regulate psychologists, marriage and family therapists, professional counselors and social workers.

Now, with Abbott's push, the "bathroom" bill might be back on the table as one of his many special session agenda items.

Over a thousand teachers met outside the State Capitol building in Austin on Monday and held a rally to voice their concerns over education in Texas.

"The transition from a state to federal status, in terms of funding, will not impact the mission of the Texas National Guard or its role in protecting and serving the citizens of Texas", he said. The majority of that funding goes to the Texas Department of Public Safety, however, and none of the funding for the upcoming biennium was slated to go to the Texas Military Department.

He says it seems like appraisers own the homes and that it must stop.

"On this discussion, conservatives can disagree with conservatives", said Moseley, whose group has typically aligned itself with the state's Republican leaders. He refused to endorse the bathroom bill for months, then backed only the softened House version.

The Texas Tribune is a nonprofit, nonpartisan media organization that informs Texans - and engages with them - about public policy, politics, government and statewide issues.

The Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce and the city's Convention and Visitors Bureau adamantly oppose the bill. There really is no way to do so. They are asking the public to bring up what they feel is important to their legislators and the governor, in hopes of moving these issues forward.

The stakes are higher in Texas, which has an economy larger than Russia's. They have to report their campaign finances for that period to the Texas Ethics Commission by the end of the day Monday.
