Kyrie Irving Injury: Celtics Star Suffered Minor Facial Fracture Vs. Hornets

Less than two minutes into Friday night's game at TD Garden, Kyrie Irving took a shot to the mouth from teammate Aron Baynes, leaving the game with a slight facial fracture and leaving the Celtics without all three of their new Big Three. He got 16 points - including a pair of huge stretch buckets - from rookie Jayson Tatum. Clearly dazed and bloodied, Irving quickly was ruled out for the remainder of the game, and was evaluated for a possible concussion.

The minor fracture to Irving is just the latest health problem for the Celtics, who are one of the hottest teams in the NBA despite the rash of injuries.

Baynes was trying to foil Hornets guard Kemba Walker's layup attempt early in the first quarter but in the process, inadvertently planted his left elbow on Irving's face.

DeMar DeRozan had 33 points and eight assists in the win, as coach Dwane Casey experiments with a deeper rotation.

But if we've learned anything about the Celtics this young season specifically, but under Stevens in general, it's that they don't quit when the odds appear overwhelmingly stacked against them.

After starting the season 0-2, the Celtics have won 11 straight.

"We're just going to do what we do no matter who we got", Boston guard Terry Rozier said after the comeback win Friday night.
