Premier League: Chelsea beat New Castle 3 to 1

Chelsea and Newcastle welcomed the start of the Premier League as they met at Stamford Bridge in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off.

Rafael Benitez heads back to Chelsea today for the first time since 2012-13, when he was appointed as the club's temporary manager following the sacking of Roberto Di Matteo despite remaining an unpopular figure with a large section of the fanbase owing to his part in a rivalry with former employers Liverpool that raged throughout the 2000s.

Hazard was denied twice in one-on-one situations by Darlow before he was given the chance of a second goal when Moses was tripped by Matt Ritchie.

Hazard has six in eight against Newcastle, the most he is scored against any Premier League side, having surpassed the total of five he set against Bournemouth and West Brom.

Hazard now has four goals in as many appearances and Conte believes his new sprout is down to his free role behind Morata.

'I think now I'm more close to the goal so it's more easy to find the net.

"After this interview the majority of the fans became more relaxed and supported the team", he reflected this week.

"My relationship with Abramovich was really good, with the people of the board was really good".

The second 45 minutes followed a similar theme, with Hazard grabbing his second of the match from the penalty spot.

Dwight Gayle and Ayoze Perez paired at the top of the formation, and Gayle opened the scoring in the 12th minute.

Cesc Fabregas, operating deeper than fellow midfielder Danny Drinkwater, lofted a superb ball into the path of Hazard but the Belgium forward saw his effort brilliantly saved by Karl Darlow.

Even though the League form under Benitez was patchy, Chelsea were brilliant in the Europa League. "We managed to come straight back up and win the league, and although we knew it was going to be very tough coming into the Premier League, we've got a good group together who are enjoying the challenge".

However, Benitez confirmed on Friday that the trio were closing in on their respective returns.
