Real Madrid Target Unlikely to Make Bernabeu Switch Any Time Soon

German international centre-forward Timo Werner will not be leaving RB Leipzig for Real Madrid in the next year, the Bundesliga club's sports director Ralf Rangnick said on Friday.

Real Madrid are among those reported to be closely monitoring his situation, while Werner has admitted in the past that he dreams of one day representing Manchester United.

Real Madrid, the crown-holders of LaLiga and Champions League have been linked with a move for Werner. Currently, the Spanish Giants are lagging behind Barcelona by 8 points.

"In winter nor in summer, we will keep Timo Werner with us", he told FourFourTwo. According to Spanish publication Marca, Los Blancos are in need of a striker in January, and Werner is the man they have turn their attentions to.

Zinedine Zidane has not ruled out dipping into the market in January but the Bernabéu board are reluctant to recruit a number nine, largely because Vinicius Júnior, the Flamengo starlet purchased by Madrid for 45 million euros, is likely to arrive ahead of schedule next summer and also because the club is considering selling Gareth Bale due to his injury problems to make way for another forward, with Inter's Mauro Icardi under consideration. His goal scoring prowess is remarkable for someone so young, and a move to Real Madrid could accelerate his career.

Also, Werner finished the last season of Bundesliga with an impressive goal tally, rocketing his club to the position of runners-up.
