Pep v Jose: This time it's for real

Jose Mourinho aimed a thinly-veiled dig at rivals Pep Guardiola and Arséne Wenger while offering an update on injuries after Manchester United's 2-1 Champions League win over CSKA Moscow.

Foden is the more likely of the two but Yaya Toure and Ilkay Gundogan might have dibs on that position, with Pep Guardiola keen to ensure he doesn't allow his players' mentality to creep into the realm of complacency.

City never looked like getting back into the game although Guardiola sent on Aguero in the hope of livening up his side and Jesus did clip the outside of the post before winning a last-gasp penalty.

City are eight points clear at the top of the Premier League and through to the last 16 of the Champions League.

"There will be better teams (who play City) than Huddersfield, Southampton and West Ham, yet all came close. I can promise you we are going to try to win the game".

City have been in irresistible form this season but it appears that teams may have identified a potential Achilles heel in their defence at set pieces.

The Manchester derby at Old Trafford is looming on Sunday and most of his main men will have put their feet up last night.

Luke Shaw is Mourinho's other option, but he's fallen out of favour with the boss and it seems that there's little chance he'll get a run in the first team. No stories of Lacazette or David Silva.

Bayern Munich, Juventus and Real Madrid are among the teams United could now face in the next round, but Mourinho said his side would advance confident that they will inspire fear in their next opponents. "You want the truth", the United boss said, laughing. "For us it is a big challenge to play against them". When players are injured, they are injured.

Unsurprisingly, ever since then, he's found first-team football hard to come by and has even been left out of matchday squads by Mauricio Pochettino.

"[Silva] felt uncomfortable after his goal". He's won 61, drawn 23 and lost 15 of his previous 99 games, lifting the trophy on two occasions with Barcelona (2009, 2011).

"The truth is Eric Bailly, no chance for the weekend, Phil Jones a chance, [Marouane] Fellaini a chance, Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] a big chance and [Nemanja] Matic is injured but will play for sure".
