EXCLUSIVE: Texas officials will hire TCU athletic director Chris Del Conte

"It's been on a lot of people's minds since they had said Mike's terms run out (in August 2018)", Dodds said.

Del Conte has been with TCU since 2009, where he oversaw a football program that went to the Big 12 Championship this past season.

The affable Del Conte will replace Longhorn athletic director Mike Perrin, who took over on an interim basis in 2015 after Steve Patterson was canned by university president Greg Fenves.

Del Conte continued: "It has been an honor and pleasure to work for Texas Christian University for the last nine years, and I am indebted to every Horned Frog for allowing me to serve you". Most important, under Chris' leadership, TCU's student-athletes have been more successful in the classroom than at any time in school history.

Del Conte also oversaw multiple facility upgrades including the $164 million construction of the new Amon G. Carter. He was earning roughly $700,000 annually with the Horned Frogs, and now he is expected to earn about $1 million with Texas.

Del Conte will lead one of the largest and wealthiest athletic programs in the country and one that is starved for success on the football field.

Chris has the experience, vision and character that's needed for Texas to build on the Longhorns' rich legacy and to continue winning with integrity for years to come. After three straight losing seasons, the Longhorns (6-6) play in the Texas Bowl under first-year coach Tom Herman.

Del Conte is also proud to say that TCU athletics carries no debt despite those major projects.
