The "rollable" display is an especially interesting device, since it means that bulky TVs will be a thing of the past. In fact, LG's largest existing OLED display is 77-inches with a heavy price tag of $20,000, and that's only in 4K. This new technology is claimed to enable the panel to emanate sound directly from the panel.

From introducing three new work robots to portable Bluetooth speakers and its latest artificial intelligence (AI) speaker, LG has plenty of announcements ahead of this year's CES event.

Full pricing details have not yet been confirmed but the 65-inch model will land at an Australian RRP of $3299.

Flexible and transparent screens like this one require Universal Display's OLED expertise.

TCL say that the color volume on the X6 is 2.8× higher than OLED at 500 nits and offers a "level of colour purity" that is 58.3% better than traditional TVs. The SUPER UHD TVs with FALD allow denser backlighting zones throughout the display, unlike edge lighting, in which backlights are positioned on the edges of the TV panel.

Flat, stiff OLED TVs by LG and others currently deliver the best picture quality available and there's no reason to think this concept, rollable display won't match them.

In December, a South Korean government panel approved LG Display's 5 trillion-won (US$4.4 billion) project to build its first large organic light-emitting diode plant in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou. Motion should appear much more crisply, smoothly and naturally than we've ever seen before on an LG OLED TV. However the design looks a lot slicker than that older TV. The same was said of high definition and then of 4K ultra high definition.

But, as VanderWaal notes, 'even robots have bad days' - and CLOi didn't respond to the requests on stage. Again, it claims to offer Dolby Atmos support for immersive cinema sound. LG Display will first incorporate this technology into gaming products, and will thereafter provide solutions tailored to the characteristics of each product category.

And, users will have access to 'more intelligent content information, ' to search soundtracks or casts, and even let the TV turn itself off when a program ends, without setting a specific time. LG is working on making ThinQ devices compatible with third-party connected devices in the future. Below these are the G8, C8 and the B8 TVs.
