Barcelona snap up Colombian defender Yerry Mina from Palmeiras for £10.5m

Mina will sign a contract that contains a 100-million-euro termination clause, the Barcelona FC said in a communiqué. He will bring a physical presence as his 1.95 metre frame suggests but he is also a quick, ball-playing defender.

Mina came through the ranks at Deportivo Pasto, before moving on to Santa Fe and then Palmeiras in 2016.

Yerry Mina's sporting career started in his hometown of Guachené, where he played as a midfielder.

However, Palmeiras are unhappy at the Catalans changing the terms once the two parties sat down to negotiate.

Despite his youth, he has shown his ability.

Mina is set to play in his first World Cup in Russia this year.

The only other Colombian player to wear Barcelona's jersey was forward Lauro Gonzalo Mosquera, but his only appearance came in a friendly in 1964.

The signing is for the remainder of the season and five more until June 30, 2023. He missed part of last season because of a serious foot injury with Palmeiras.
