Antonio Conte: Chelsea players must play for club and fans, not me

Chelsea FC are still aiming to finish the season with a trophy, and they will take on Southampton in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley later this month as they look to go one step further than they did last term.

It looked like another ritual defeat for struggling Chelsea, another bad day at the office for an impotent outfit.

"I was a player, and the players must play every game, and not for me, but for the club, and for the fans", Conte said. "We didn't show great spirit, desire, will to fight to win this game".

Whomever Chelsea land, however, it seems Conte's departure from Stamford Bridge appears increasingly likely, with the Italian admitting he is not currently planning for next season at the club.

Brendan Rodgers is firmly in Chelsea's thinking to replace Antonio Conte this summer, with the Blues having drawn up a four-man shortlist, claim reports. I have been through some difficult periods in my career and all the time I try to come back stronger and it has happened again in this game, and I am very pleased for myself and for the team'.

Antonio Conte has spoken of the need for his players to show pride in playing for Chelsea and their supporters, amid continued uncertainty over the Italian's future at Stamford Bridge.

"It could've broken his leg. There were three officials within five to 10 yards so how each of them missed it is a mystery to me".

Had he opted to remain with Arsene Wenger's side, the 31-year-old's first-team opportunities would have, in all probability, been further limited following the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund during the January transfer window.

The Northern Irishman was axed by Liverpool in October 2015 before moving up to Scotland to enjoy what has been two trophy-laden seasons at Celtic Park.

And with Southampton reeling, Giroud completed Chelsea's comeback when he pounced on a loose ball inside the area to drive into the bottom corner.
